New in 0.4.0: the Horizon Update

Game update, 3 November 2026.

Three new lands across the sea, boats to reach them, three new bosses, Jadesteel and sickles, new food, nations of towns, a new trade window, touch controls and a game download that drops from 111 MB to about 14 MB.

  • New lands: a cold continent in the north (tundra, boreal taiga, snowfields), a hot one in the south (red rock badlands with canyons, salt flats, palm oases, thorn scrub) and the lawless jungle isle in the east (rainforest, giant trees, mangrove swamps). Small islands sit next to them, capes reach out from three coasts, and 16 islands lie in the open sea, with richer rare deposits and more ruins. A land joins your atlas only once you reach it; the map shows ? over sea you haven't explored and a storm line at the world's edge. You can push slowly through trees whose leaves hang low. New lands
  • Sailing: build wood piers out over shallow water, carry a raft in your pack and row it anywhere, or build a dockyard with your town and launch dhows and trade cogs that sail on the wind. Boats have holds, crews, sail colours and a compass that shows the wind; they slow down with cargo, run aground on a beach at speed (hold S to pull free) and rot when nobody uses them. You can fish from a boat. Sailing
  • Weather and water: clouds, rain, thunderstorms and snow in cold lands (a setting turns the rain and snow visuals down). Open deep water drowns you once your stamina and breath run out. Weather and drowning
  • The lawless isle: no Town Halls, buildings weather away in days, PvP is always on, and dying drops your whole Pack, tools and armor included (your gold stays with you). The game warns you before you cross in and when you arrive. Lawless land
  • Bosses: Rimetusk on the cold continent, the Dune Tyrant on the hot one and the Jadecoil, the deadliest, on the jungle isle. Each drops a core and a trophy. Bosses can't be tracked from across the region any more: you see one when you're near it, its respawn time is random and secret, and defeat notices reach only its region and the neighbours. Bosses
  • Wildlife: on the jungle isle, pit vipers hide in the grass, hornet swarms chase you until you reach deep water, and mire eels shock you. Caribou, moose, elk and bear drop their own meat. Some birds fly off when you get close. Jungle creatures
  • Arrows: Venom Arrows (a pit viper's venom sac) poison what you hit, Eagle Arrows hit harder and Owl Arrows pierce armor. Arrows
  • Smithing: Jadesteel, mined from Jade Seams on the jungle isle and smelted with a Verdant Core, sits between Blacksteel and Star Iron. Star Iron gear lasts 620 uses (up from 560). Sickles come in six metals. 8 new handles and 7 new bindings each trade one strength for another, built tools show their colours, and a Burl inlay adds a new engraving look. Obsidian veins now spread across each Ashlands region. Smithing
  • Food and farming: wild cloudberries, lingonberries, pine nuts, dates, prickly pears, bananas, cacao, mangrove crabs, huckleberries, chanterelles and bilberries, rock salt from the salt flats, and 9 new campfire dishes with small, long-lasting effects. Cacao, dates, cloudberries and huckleberries can be farmed, but only where they grow wild; picking them sometimes gives a seed. Food
  • Beds, farming and building: a bed (6 logs, 4 fiber) on a floor or foundation sets where you wake up, like a campfire or camp. Berry and Wheat Planters (4 planks, 2 compost) go on a wooden floor or foundation. Harvesting with a hoe and a matching seed in your Pack replants the crop. Pack up an empty station you own and place it again later with its tier and contents. Edit existing gives floors and roofs a quarter turn, signs can be locked, and a new setting closes doors behind you. Building
  • Mining and the Journal: bronze and iron pickaxes mine 2 ore a swing, steel 3. New Journal goals: set a place to wake up, an iron pickaxe, a steel pickaxe and a first anvil. Good to know
  • Trading: click a nearby player's name (or use Social) to ask to trade, in a new trade window with item slots, your bag, item details and clear Ready and Confirm steps. New market offers and wanted orders wait a minute before anyone but the poster can take them. Chests, the saddlebag and boat holds use slot grids: click to move a stack, right-click to move one, or drag. Market prices can now have decimals, like 2.5 gold, you can sell and buy in lots (items per lot, gold per lot), listings hold up to 1,000 items, and My trades has Add more. Direct trading
  • Towns and nations: a region takes new towns until its towns hold 150 plots (no more 3-town limit). You can found one town and belong to one town on each server (players who had more keep them). A town closes after three weeks with no member playing, and the founder gets the treasury back. Each member covers 6 plots of upkeep; every plot beyond that adds 3 gold a day. Regions hold 6,144 building pieces, up from 4,096. Town founders can found a nation and invite other towns, and the Town panel has new Overview, Land, People, Settings and Nation tabs. Towns and nations
  • Music and art: new music for the Ashlands, Groves, Fens and Jungle by day and night (Lab of the Ocean), a Dunes night theme (JamesT), boss music for the Cinder Colossus, the Jadecoil and the Dune Tyrant, and music when you fight another player. 26 items have new hand-made icons by Truly / Fawkes Sakes and Lucksmyth, and long item names wrap. Music
  • Phones and tablets: touch controls turn on by themselves (?touch=0 turns them off), in full screen, with the main button named after your tool (Gather, Chop, Mine, Cut or Hit), taps on the hotbar while walking, bows and spells that fire where you face, tap-to-aim on the anvil and a UI Size setting. Getting started
  • Performance: the game download drops from 111 MB to about 14 MB (under 6 MB compressed) and stays saved between visits. Computers with a graphics card draw buildings and trees on the GPU, so busy towns run almost twice as fast (Settings → Video → GPU renderer). Far-away players and creatures are no longer sent to you.
  • Combat and rules: spell recovery only holds back your next spell, and casting ends a campfire rest. No friendly fire inside a party. /who all shows regions only for your friends and party. Look-alike names are blocked, staff names are reserved, and a new Helper staff role wears a green HELPER tag. Spell recovery
  • Quality of life: jumping and climbing cost 2 stamina for each metre you rise (slopes and stairs stay free). Name a forged item you made, once. Taking damage with a menu or the map open flashes the screen border. Wand recovery shows on the hotbar; , and . switch spell family, U and L step through levels. Three dots show over a player who's typing, and a whisper while chat is closed marks Chat with (!). Attack and Telescope can be bound to keys or mouse buttons. You keep moving when you open chat, and chat history stays when you change region. The Town panel shows your towns in other regions. The Pack sorts by weight, Build search covers every category, V eats the first food on your hotbar, and items dropped in water float.
  • Fixes: no more climbing through floors, roofs or stacked wall tops; feet stay on stairs; overloaded walking no longer rubber-bands; disconnecting while a creature chases you no longer locks you out; worn wooden hammers work for upgrades, repairs, take-downs and salvage; partial pickups leave the rest on the ground and loot that doesn't fit drops at your feet; the forge no longer stops responding; buying worn or forged items on the market works again; height refusals name the piece to upgrade, and stone top decks take railings, posts and stairs; moving a town hall works while standing on a building; you can see your own hours played on the character panel; the telescope no longer hangs mid-jump, controller and keyboard no longer add together, stacked signs no longer mix up, roof fills no longer go missing, floor seams lose their black strips, roofs stop disappearing, and rejoining after an idle kick works without a refresh.
