Updates

Every Asciilands update since 0.3.0 in plain words, newest first: what changed and what it means for you, with links to the wiki pages it touched. The wiki is brought up to date the day each one comes out.

New in 0.3.5

Game update, 28 October 2026.

A third server for Asia and Oceania, whole buildings taken down at once, plots sold with the buildings on them, a camera tilt setting, and a long list of smithing, crafting and lag fixes.

  • Asia Pacific server: a new server in Singapore for players in Asia and Oceania, with its own saves, like Europe and North America. Its regions have the same names and places as the other two. Pick it with the server switch at the top of the wiki: prices, the map and the town directory follow it. World
  • Take down building: remove a whole building from the Build dock with a Wooden Hammer: it lights up what comes down, then you stand still for 5 seconds. You get back half the materials of the pieces you placed yourself. Anyone can take down an abandoned building that has fully decayed; it falls as debris anyone can pick up. Never a Town Hall. Building
  • Buying a plot now gives you the buildings on it: walls, floors, doors, stations, signs, fences and empty chests. Every chest and station on the plot must be empty first. Market stalls and fields stay with their owners. Towns
  • Town directory: the game's public list of every town is live, so the wiki shows every town, its residents and its plots for sale on the Towns page and on each region's page.
  • Smithing: you can't quench a piece before it's shaped ("Shape it closer to the outline first"; below 50% fit). Forge keys work on any keyboard layout, the arrow keys follow the way the head lies, and "Too hot. Cool before striking." shows when the metal is above the gold band. Exact smithing numbers now sit behind a toggle on Inspect. The steel and iron spear art and the engraving mark on sickles are fixed, here too. Smithing
  • Crafting: jobs no longer get stuck at stations, and a job can be finished at any station of the same kind. Finished items show in the station's pack view. Peat and sea salt work at the campfire: 2 peat make 3 charcoal, and 2 sea salt with 3 raw meat make 3 cooked meat, with a log, charcoal or Emberstone as fuel. Stations
  • Combat and lag: the short freeze that hit every region every 30 minutes now comes every 6 hours, players joining a region no longer freeze the others on that server, and boss loot goes only to fighters still alive at the kill. Fighting
  • Building: foundations can be damaged again, stacked signs can be read, and railings no longer float above pavilions.
  • Companions: the saddlebag works on a pet told to stay. Progress bars no longer freeze partway, and the buy order layout is fixed. Companions
  • Settings: a camera tilt setting from 20 to 40 degrees; a lower tilt shows farther but can lag more. Player names are unique, ignoring capital letters (existing duplicates keep theirs). Water no longer goes missing after loading or reconnecting, and the menu music no longer turns into noise.

New in 0.3.4

Game update, 26 October 2026.

Waypoints and death markers on the map, Inspect for items, founders can move their Town Hall, buildings no longer vanish from decay, iron and steel spears, and maces hit players a bit harder again.

  • Inspect: items in your Pack, at stalls and in trades have Inspect, with melee damage, windup and recovery, attack stamina, reach, attack arc, gathering time and yield, protection, uses, weight, and for forged pieces grade, quality, shape, traits and maker. The same numbers are now in the game's data, so every weapon and tool page on this wiki shows its base damage, attack time, stamina, reach and arc. Iron swords hit for 28, steel maces for 46, Blacksteel battleaxes for 55.
  • Waypoints: right-click the World or Local map to place a marker; click one to rename or remove it. Each character keeps one primary destination and up to 10 waypoints. The primary one has a bigger flag and guides you across regions; the others show in their own region. Controls
  • Death markers: your last five deaths show on your maps and compass for 20 minutes, only to you. A new death becomes your destination until you pick another waypoint. Death
  • Towns: founders can move their Town Hall from Town T onto an unassigned plot the town already owns, on dry, level, clear ground within 18 m of where they stand, with a preview on the local map. It costs seven days of upkeep, 7 × (2 + plots + plots² ÷ 25) gold, can be done once every seven days, and claims and membership stay as they are. Founders and officers see when members were last online, leadership offers ask to confirm, and a public town directory (names, hall locations, residents and plot counts) is in the game's API. Towns
  • Decay: buildings no longer disappear from decay. They stop at 1% as Decayed, which Edit shows; out in the wild one hit with a suitable tool clears such a piece, and Maintain (with a wooden hammer) restores it. In crowded regions the game can clear empty, unused crafting stations that have been decayed for 7 days, and isolated building pieces after 30 days; connected buildings stay. The Field Guide now lists every decay time: wood 14 days, stone 60, metal 120, stations 6 hours of grace and then 7 times faster. Decay
  • Building: doorways next to uneven stairs and raised floors can be walked through again, and roofs and walls cut away indoors in more split-level houses. Building
  • Smithing: iron spear heads (3 iron ingots) and steel spear heads (2 steel ingots) at the Forge, put together into spears at the Workbench. Saved blanks stay workable after a long break or a reconnect, and forged items show their own icons in saddlebags. Smithing
  • Fighting: maces now deal 10% less to players instead of 15%. Reconnecting to the same character during the combat logout window picks it up right away with its health and cooldowns, without a new protection shield and without leaving the fight by changing region. Fighting
  • Other: Journal goals and hints cover the current stations, steel and Blacksteel tools, fuels, inscriptions and trading; the companion lookout goal needs a warning and a region crossing. Creatures no longer keep attacking a disconnected character, and frozen lines of wildlife are gone.

New in 0.3.3

Game update, 25 October 2026.

Meals fill much more but take more to make, fields beyond the first 10 cost 1 gold a day per 5, armor counts more against players' melee and maces hit players less, Masterwork needs a shaped blank, and spare tools are back.

  • Food: meals fill much more and their effect lasts longer, but they take more to make and longer to cook: a meat pie is 8 wheat + 2 cooked meat (95 fullness, was 70), a meat stew 2 cooked meat + 3 apples (85, was 50), a berry tart 12 berries + 6 wheat (85, was 45) and honey fish 3 cooked fish + 2 honey (80, was 40). Raw food fills less: an apple 6 (was 18), berries 4 (was 12) and trail mix 30 (was 60). Food
  • Farming: the first 10 fields stay free. After that every started group of 5 fields costs 1 gold a day (11–15 fields 1 gold, 16–20 fields 2 gold), instead of 1 gold for each extra field. Farming
  • Fighting: PvP melee hits no longer land late, armor counts 1.25 times against players' melee (up to 65%), and maces deal 15% less damage to players, get past at most 20% of their armor and get no bonus for hits from behind. Crossing into another region no longer clears the combat logout timer, and dagger swings look as quick as they are. Fighting
  • Smithing: Masterwork needs a shaped blank. The forge now caps the score by how far you moved the edges, so a barely worked blank stays Standard; every template in the game moves far enough. Emberstone fuels steel too (one stone lasts 6 batches), custom armor names survive forging, hammer designs preview as hammers, and polished tool portraits are cleaner. Quality
  • Tools: carry spare working tools again, as many axes or pickaxes as you like. Only the Wayfinder Lens and the Simple Bag are still one each. Tools
  • Building: metal chests have metal durability: they are much harder to break, axes barely hurt them, and they decay over about 121 days instead of 15. Roofs open up beneath pavilions too. Shift+I no longer switches the interior view by accident; choose it in Settings → Gameplay → Interior view. Building
  • Wildlife and resources: animals on town land are protected (a shield icon shows it), tamed pale animals stay pale, and water checks are better. Rare deposits and obsidian that lay outside a region's bounds were moved inside, and plants and iron outside the bounds are gone. Creatures
  • Meteorites: hints point the right way within 5 regions (north and south were swapped), and meteorites no longer land underwater. EU and NA both had Star Iron craters somewhere when 0.3.3 came out. Meteorites
  • Other: new listings show in My trades right away, and announcements pop up and are highlighted in chat.

New in 0.3.2

Game update, 24 October 2026.

Mineable obsidian got its own look and regrows piece by piece, Emberstone lasts more batches, you can carry many weapons and armor pieces again, fields beyond the first 10 cost gold, and logging out mid-fight keeps you in the world for 15 seconds.

  • Obsidian: what you can mine is now a cluster of black and violet glass, easy to tell from the huge dark cliffs, which are scenery. A vein grows back one piece every 2 hours, an empty vein now and then comes back all at once as a big vein, and small obsidian finds lie around the Ashlands for explorers. The old recipe that turned obsidian into a stone sickle is gone. Where to find it
  • Fuel and recipes: one Emberstone now lasts 12 campfire batches or 6 smelter batches. 2 acacia resin + 1 log make 3 charcoal at a campfire again, and a smelter makes 2 bronze ingots straight from 2 copper ore, 3 tin grains and 1 charcoal. Stations
  • Gear: carry as many weapons and armor pieces as you like again; only working tools are one of each type. Star Iron smith rank goes up now (it was stuck at Apprentice), and any recipe at the forge shows your rank and what the next one needs. Forged pickaxes look like pickaxes, Blacksteel and Star Iron axes and pickaxes can damage buildings, and forged names can be 32 characters long. Smithing
  • Farming: your first 10 fields are free. Each extra field costs 1 gold a day, taken from the gold you carry, even while you're offline; after 7 days unpaid the extra fields turn back to dirt. Existing farms get a week's grace, so billing starts around 31 October. An empty field clears after 7 days without planting, fields outside towns can be damaged, and a region holds 320 fields (was 256). Farming
  • Fighting: log out on purpose during a fight and your character stays in the world for 15 seconds. Town members can fight back against visitors, and attacking someone drops your own town protection for 30 seconds after your last attack. Nobody can attack you while a region is still loading for you. Combat is smoother, and melee hits on players allow for a little lag. Fighting
  • Market: take back part of a listing (an amount or Max, in My trades), Trade still opens when your last stall is gone so you can take your listings back, and the merchant asks you to confirm large trades. Market
  • Other: EU holds 160 players (was 150). Fences span a full building edge and join up at the corners. Settings has Toggle sprint and a filter for join and leave notices, petting has its own key (Y, can be rebound), and a held pan no longer takes F from doors and stations. Characters stuck under the ground or out at sea spawn somewhere safe, and the game's Help now links this wiki next to its search box.

New in 0.3.1

Game update, 23 October 2026.

Obsidian comes to most Ashlands regions and grows back twice as fast, plus fixes for frozen fights and lag.

  • Obsidian: most Ashlands regions have it now, and a deposit grows back one obsidian every 4 hours (was 8). Deposits have their own look, big black glass rocks; plain Ashlands stone no longer looks like obsidian, and the big black ridges are only scenery. Where to find it
  • Fixes: swinging a battleaxe at empty air no longer freezes fights in the whole region, ash monitors and other lone hunters chasing the same player no longer break combat in the Ashlands, and there's much less lag at busy times.
  • Other: tighter movement checks, boss kill announcements show for 4 seconds (was 12), and updates now close the servers with a "Closed for update!" message so nobody gets stuck on an old version.

New in 0.3.0: The Tempered Update

Game update, on the wiki since 23 October 2026.

The Tempered Update: design-your-own smithing with quality and smith ranks, daggers, maces, battleaxes and plate armor, Blacksteel, parries, death drops, three new creatures including the Cinder Colossus, and a reworked economy.

  • Smithing: design a piece before you forge it, watch the heat drift, and finish with a Tap. Every piece gets a quality score, every metal has smith ranks, and iron and better can be quenched and tempered. Smithing
  • New gear: daggers, maces, battleaxes, plate armor and helmets in every metal, smithing hammers, and a new top metal: Blacksteel (2 steel ingots, 1 obsidian, 1 Ember Core, fired with emberstone).
  • Combat: guard just before a hit to parry it, heavy weapons break tired guards, hits from behind deal 25% more, and getting hit interrupts a light swing or a bow draw. Town land now only protects that town's own members. Fighting
  • Death: you drop the goods in your Pack where you fell (anyone can take them for 20 minutes), tools and weapons lose 15% of their max uses, and respawning takes 20 seconds. Death
  • Wildlife: the Frost rhino, the Quillback (its quills make you bleed: carry a Bandage) and the Cinder Colossus, an Ashlands boss that drops Ember Cores. Wolves hunt as a pack, boars charge, bears swipe wide. Creatures
  • Economy: the merchant pays each character up to 300 gold a day, Gold Flecks sell for 25 gold outside that limit, market sales pay a 4% fee from 25 gold up, a new town costs 50 gold, and steel takes 3 iron ingots. Market
  • Servers: both realms now hold 150 players. Journal: smithing quests, a Hunting discipline and an Achievements tab. In-game Help now links to this wiki.
